Chapter Ten: School Again
Noelle?s POV
I woke as much as my alarm clock blaring and I hit the off switch. I climbed out of bed and stumbled to the closet. I took some clothes with me to the bathroom and I showered quickly. I shaved my legs and did all my girl stuff then trudged back upstairs to put a little make up on. I didn?t do much, I just didn?t care about it, I was missing Jared. I grabbed my backpack and slid a pair of sneakers on before going downstairs and grabbing a bagel. I walked out the door and down the driveway.
I created my way towards the bus stop slowly, almost hoping I?d miss the bus and wouldn?t have to go to school. I put my headphones in and hit play on my ipod. You?re Every little thing by Kate Alexa began playing, and I sang along, thinking about Jared.
Right from the day, I saw your face, and it all just felt so proper.
And when I appear back, I see the smile, you gave to me that night.
Your are the gate appropriate to my heart.
I wanna live like this forever and ever.
You’re everything very good to me
You make me free
You’re every little thing I’ll ever need
You’re all I dream
You’re every thing
You make me complete
And now I can fly above the ground
Cause you’re every little thing, you’re every thing.
Oooh yeah..
Its finally clear now that your here, I’ve lost all that I fear.
I’ll usually embrace this fantasy place, this all just feels so real.
Under the sun, under the rain, just as long as I’m with you, with you..
You’re everything good to me
You make me free
You’re every thing I’ll ever need
You’re all I dream
You’re everything
You make me complete
And now I can fly above the ground
Cause you’re almost everything, you’re every thing..
Not a lonely day goes by
With you correct here by my side
You give me the strength
I can do anything, anything
When you are here
My mind is clear
You’re every little thing good to me
You make me free
You’re almost everything I’ll ever need
You’re all I dream
You’re everything
You make me complete
And now I can fly above the ground
Cause you’re everything, you’re every little thing…
You’re everything
Another voice cut into the last few lyrics and I jumped, startled to see another person in the bus stop. It wasn?t Lana and that?s what really startled me. It was a boy… wait, I recognized those eyes! “You know this song?”
“Yeah. My sister loves Kate Alexa.” He shrugged, looking slightly embarrassed. “Hey, aren?t you the girl on the trail that day?” Holy crap… it was that Alex kid! “Noelle appropriate?”
“Uh yeah that?s me.” I blushed.
He laughed. “I have your flip flops by the way, or at least, I?m assuming their yours… you were barefoot in the time…”
“Yeah, they?re mine… I totally forgot I left them.” I blushed harder, feeling so stupid… I mean honestly, who forgets their shoes??
He smiled. “I can bring them for you tomorrow, if you would like.”
“Sure. Thanks. Exactly where do you live anyway?”
“Right over there, the white house.” He pointed to a house only three away from my own.
“Oh that?s cool. I didn?t realize you lived so close.”
“Where do you live?”
“Three houses down from yours, the light blue one.” I gestured towards it. The bus pulled up and I climbed on, heading to an empty seat towards the back, wondering exactly where Lana was. Knowing her she slept in and her mom would give her a ride to school. I sat, and slouched down in the seat. Since my bus stop is the last stop before school, the bus is usually full.
“Is it okay if I sit here?” Alex asked me.
“Uh yeah, sure.” I scooted over closer to the window and he sat down. “We?re the last bus stop, so the bus is always this packed when we get on.” I scrolled through the songs on my ipod, trying to find a song.. not a particular song, just something that wouldn?t make me miss Jared too much. Finding that impossible, I put my ipod in my backpack and just stared out the window instead.
“So how?s school here?”
“It?s pretty very good… the teachers are pretty cool… the principal is nice enough I guess… the cafeteria food sucks, but I guess that?s normal.” I shrugged. “I like the school.”
“Cool. I got my schedule within the mail a few days ago, do you know exactly where any of these classes are?” He handed me a schedule. It was the identical schedule as mine. Simply because this school is so small that there aren?t many sophomores. There are only two different schedules for the sophomores. And we had the exact same schedule.
“Yeah, we actually have every class together.”
“Great. I guess I?ll be seeing a lot of you then.”
“Yeah I guess so.” The bus stopped in the school and we all piled out. I let myself get pushed along using the wave of kids into the school and, as usual, we had to wait inside the lobby before the morning bell rang. No kids are allowed inside the hallways before the morning bell.
I started walking down the hall and I heard Alex call out my name. I turned and saw him hurrying towards me. “Can you aid me find out exactly where the heck my locker is?” He looked really nervous and I almost laughed.
“Sure. Come on.” I took his wrist and dragged him off to the sophomore lockers. “You are a sophomore right?” When he nodded, I asked, “And you?re locker number is?”
“312.” He looked down at the paper to make sure and then nodded. “Yeah. 312.”
“Okay mine is 299, so yours is…” I scanned the numbers until we discovered his. “Right here. The lockers stay the same all through highschool… these are the sophomore lockers, but next year they?ll be the junior lockers, and then the senior lockers…. Okay, we?ve got Biology first, so put your stuff in and get a notebook if you brought 1.” I opened my locker and emptied out my backpack. I had brought a case with pencils and pens, as well as a few notebooks. I grabbed one and took my pencil case with me. I slammed the locker shut and waited for him before leading him down the hallway.
We walked into the Biology lab just before the bell rang. “Hey everybody. I?m Mr. Levitt. I?m so glad this is a small school… small classes are so easy to handle.” He smiled. “Okay, so, why don?t you all sit down… I see some of you still standing… and then one by 1 stand up, say your name and one thing that you love to do.”
I wanted to roll my eyes. We?re high-schoolers not preschoolers. “Okay, you,” He pointed to Alex. “You first.”
“Okay. I?m Alex Foster and I love to run.”
I stood up. “I?m Noelle Carter. And I love to draw.” I sat back down and leaned back. The desks were all so close together, that I was putting my head on Alex?s desk. “Hope you don?t mind.” I said with a smile, staring up in the ceiling. He just laughed as the rest of the class introduced themselves.
But with a school as small as ours, only two hundred students, I knew them all anyway. We?d grown up together. A person ran in. “Hey sorry I?m late. I overslept.” It was Lana, I heard her sit next to me and the introduce herself, as, “Lana Nason. I?m Sleepy over there?s best friend, and I love to be fashionably late.” I laughed. Naturally she?d call me Sleepy…
“I?m not the one who overslept!” I muttered out, protesting. I sat up and glared at her. She just laughed.
“Okay, I think today I?m just gonna pass out the books and let you all have fun today.” Mr. Levitt said, handing out our Biology books. “I?m going to go to the greenhouse and let you all just chill out.” The greenhouse was a small thick plastic walled, roofed room in the back of the biology room, so he went out there with a few kids who wanted to support him check on the plants.
“So, I?m Lana, and I apologize for my sleepy friend Noelle there, who?s big head is drooling all more than your desk.” I heard Lana giggled and I frowned. “Just kidding Noelle!” She grinned and I rolled my eyes. She giggled again, and began questioning Alex. “So, new kid, what?s your name and exactly where are you from?”
“My name is Alex and I just moved from California, but I was born in Paris… my parents travel a lot, so I?ve lived a lot of different places.”
“Cool! Like where?” I asked, turning around in my seat to face him.
“Well, like I said, I was born in Paris, but when I was about a year old, we moved to London, when I was five we moved to Sydney, Australia, when I was seven we moved to Florida, when I was eight we moved to Germany and Egypt, and I lived in Egypt until I was thirteen when we moved to California and we stayed there until we moved here.”
“You lived in Paris? That?s sooooo cool.” Liz walked up and sat on his desk. “What was Paris like?” I guess I should mention that Liz is my least favorite individual within the world… she?s not a complete slut… she?s just really annoying, somewhat slutty and usually obnoxious.
“I dunno, I was only a baby when I was there.” He told her, seeming uncomfortable. She scooted closer, and I almost laughed at the appear on her face.
“Oh… properly, maybe we could go to Paris together sometime.” She batted her eyelashes at him, a small, supposed to be sexy smile on her face and he burst out laughing.
“Nah, I?m excellent. I?d rather not.” He gently pushed her off and she stomped away. “Wow… she seems nice.” He said sarcastically.
I chuckled. “Yeah… she?s… sweet.” I tried to be nice… but my voice was definitely sarcastic.
“Yeah, sweet like a rat.” Lana chuckled and we turned to see Liz talking to a group of football players.
“So… Noelle, you and Alex seem like you know each other… care to explain why?” Lana asked, suddenly, surprising me.
“Uhm, we met on the trail behind my house one day… absolutely nothing big.” I said, glancing at Alex and hoping he wouldn?t say anything. Thankfully, he just nodded, not explaining anything that happened. Not like anything had really happened anyway, but I wanted to make sure he didn?t say that I?d left my flip flops or that I had fallen asleep or anything.
“Oh, cool. Nicely, I?m going to the bathroom.” She hopped up and signed out on the sign out sheet before skipping out the door and down the hallway.
Alex laughed. “She seems crazy. In an excellent way.”
“She really is.” I smiled. “She?s my best friend… and we?re both pretty insane at times…. her more than me naturally.” I laughed quietly.
“Yeah, sure… I bet your just as crazy if not more.” He grinned and I blushed slightly… wow, he had a strange effect on me.
The day dragged on until it was finally ten minutes before the bell could ring and we?d be out of school. Alex was hysterically funny and me and Lana had almost been given four detentions from laughing too much, but as usual Lana weaseled our way out of it. I smiled, thinking of how she could get out of almost anything.
Lana turned to me and whispered, “His voice is soo annoying.” She was talking about our teacher Mr. Bradley. He had an almost high pitched, monotonous voice that droned on in the most boring but annoying tone, and when he sneezed… it honestly sounded like one of those cuckoo clocks.
And unfortunately he sneezed a lot since of his allergies… he?s allergic to almost almost everything.
I laughed and he turned to us. “Lana and Noelle, if you’ll be able to?t behave yourselves, go to the office.”
“Oh we can behave ourselves.” Lana told him and he turned back to the board. “I think he?s going bald.” She giggled. “Look in the top of his head.”
“What are you whispering about?” Alex turned about from his seat in front of us.
“Oh we?re just talking about Mr. Bradley. The annoying U.S. history teacher that nobody likes.” Lana whispered loudly. A few other kids chuckled and Mr. Bradley turned about.
“Alright, what is going on?”
“Nothing. Absolutely nothing at all. We?re just paying attention to your fascinating lesson concerning the Revolutionary war. It?s so interesting.” She sounded like she had been paying attention and he beamed.
“Well I do try my best to make the lessons interesting for you students.” He turned around again and started writing some notes on the board. “Please copy these into your notebooks.”
I sighed and did as he said, writing down the notes in a clear neat handwriting… knowing Lana would ask to borrow my notes to write her own, I constantly produced sure they were easy to read… especially since he had told us that we could use our notebooks in all our tests and quizzes.
Only five more minutes… “And, there will be no homework tonight, since it is your first day as a sophomore, I?ll be nice.” He smiled at us all and we smiled back, faking angelic faces. Four more minutes. Almost everyone was staring at the clock since the lesson was more than.
“Three more minutes.” I moaned… then we could go to our lockers and then the busses and then property. Thank goodness…
“Two more minutes.” Lana grinned. “And then you?ll be free to call Jared and be all lovey dovey.” She laughed and I rolled my eyes.
“Who?s Jared?” Alex asked, confused.
“Her boyfriend of almost two months. They started dating a week ish after the fourth of July… honestly, I?m not completely sure when you two even started dating…”
“To tell you the truth, neither am I… it just happened.” I smiled and she laughed.
“Well I?m glad it happened. You two are so cute together.” She grinned. Alex had a strange look on his face but he smiled to, just as the bell rang. I jumped up, grabbing my stuff and hurried out into the hallway. I had no homework, so I left everything in my locker, including my backpack, since I didn?t need it, and started walking down the hallway. I got onto the bus and sat down in the back.
Alex and Lana climbed on and Lana sat next to me, Alex sat in front of us. I felt my phone vibrate and I pulled it out of my pocket.
hey babe how was school? It was from Jared. I smiled and texted him back.
it was ok, how about u
“Oooh, I bet that?s Jared.” Lana screeched, grabbing my phone. “Hey babe how was school? Awww.” She cooed. “He?s such a sweetie.” I took my phone back, glaring at her.
“Lana don?t read my texts out loud. I think everyone on the bus heard you.” I hissed, sticking it back in my pocket. She just giggled and smiled her infectious smile, and I couldn?t aid but smile back.
Alex was quiet on the bus ride house, but I didn?t really notice simply because I was texting Jared. I got off in the bus stop and started walking residence. “Noelle come to my house!” Lana screamed loudly, making a lot of dogs start barking. I rolled my eyes.
“Okay!” I turned into her driveway and waved goodbye to Alex.
“Sooooo, guess what!?” She asked, bouncing into her house and onto her couch.
“What? And how do you have so much energy?”
“I slept really excellent last night and I had way too much sugar this morning.”
I laughed and nodded. “Obviously you did.”
“So I talked to Aaron during homeroom. And I think he likes me.” She grinned. “Isn?t that awesome?”
She?d been crushing on Aaron for forever it seemed. I shrugged… personally, I didn?t like Aaron.. he was too popular and over confident. “That?s pretty cool.”
“I know you don?t like him, but could you please be happy for me?” She was winding down now, flopping backwards onto the couch and putting her feet up. “Please?”
“I am happy for you. Honest.” I smiled and she grinned.
“Thanks.”
