A month has passed and Daniel was nonetheless not employed to not seeing his momma. He cried for her all of the time. He woke everyone up inside the middle of night wailing ?momma?.
It angered me how Evyn could leave Daniel behind.
It angered me how Evyn could break Sin?s heart.
Three hearts broken in two days.
Evyn was gone.
Heaven was gone.
Sin, Sparrow and Daniel had been left with hearts that required mending.
“Come on, baby, you wanna go to the park? Spring is nearly here,” I cooed to Daniel and picked him up. His eyes were tearful. I could see the longing in his eyes. He wanted Evyn. He wanted the 1 who left him. He wanted a loving momma to hold and cradle him. Hot, salty tears burned my eyes.
I sat down on the couch and wiped away his tears. They leaked from his eyes and streaked his cheeks. I bit my lip. I shouldn?t start crying. Daniel required me to be powerful.
“Don?t cry, honey, don?t cry,” I murmured. I held him to my chest and Daniel felt so fragile in my arms. It felt like he could break under my palms, no matter how careful I was.
“Momma,” Daniel whimpered and blinked his green eyes at me. My heart ached.
“You have daddy,” I whispered and stroked his hair. His honey brown locks felt silky and soft below my fingers.
“Momma,” he said, stubbornly, his lower lip jutting out in a pout.
“You have a daddy, a granddaddy, an aunt and two amazing uncles. You don?t need to have momma,” I tried to clarify.
“Momma,” Daniel sniffled and buried his face in my stomach.
I looked up and stared blankly in the ceiling, trying difficult not to cry. Evyn was like a sister to me, the sister I by no means had. She sometimes stepped in as my mother, too even though we were the exact same age. She was so mature and type and warm and loving. Her absence affected me, too. But she was a coward.
“How about we go to the park?” I suggested. It felt nice to in fact be able to speak to Daniel now, but he could barely. It was sufficient though.
He nodded his head, still pouting. His fingers curled into a loose fist and he rubbed at his wet eyes. I helped him and wiped the streaks of tears from his cheeks. I leaned my face down and we touched noses.
“You don?t have momma, baby, but you?ll usually have me. You?ll usually have your daddy and Slade, Sparrow and grandfather. We?ll never ever leave you,” I promised, staring deep into his eyes. He didn?t blink as he raised his hands and pressed his palms against each of my cheeks.
“Oh-kay,” he stated, meekly and turned my face to the side so he could give my cheek a sloppy kiss. I closed my eyes and wiped my cheeks and cradled his head as it rested on my chest.
“Let?s get you dressed, it?s still chilly out,” I murmured and climbed up the stairs. Daniel closed his eyes and played with my hair, twining it around his fist. I winced, but remained silent. Telling my nephew to stop messing with my hair wouldn?t be best when his mother had just walked out on him. Don?t tell him I stated this, but Daniel could be a crybaby?
Hehe?
“Oh-kay,” he mumbled and I smiled and rubbed his back. I went into Sin?s room and looked by way of Daniel?s clothes. I chose a button-down blue shirt and black pants, items the guys in my family always wore. More than that, I draped a black jacked around Daniel?s shoulders and helped him get his arm by means of the sleeves.
“You look adorable,” I said smiling and Daniel blinked his baby eyes at me.
I lifted him up from Sin?s bed and carried him down the stairs. I put Daniel on the automobile seat and got into drivers seat. I pulled out of the driveway and drove towards the park. I put on light slow songs and relaxed, listening although watching Daniel within the rearview mirror occasionally. He was sucking on his thumb, staring curiously out the window and I was cautious to drive added slowly.
When I finally got to the park, it was filled with laughing young children. Our town was tiny, you realize? So I knew mostly everybody around. It wasn?t like those crazy cities exactly where everybody was a stranger. We had these community parties where every person would collect about? So individuals got to know every other. It was fairly cool.
I parked my vehicle and went to the back to get my Danny Baby. I lifted him up into my arms. He got into the habit of playing with my hair again ? he had stopped following Evyn left ? and kept trying to separate every specific red strands which he, obviously, failed to. You possibly had more than a thousand strands of hair?Come on. You need to give him credit for at the very least attempting, although?
The kids at the park immediately spotted my redheaded self and Daniel. They excitedly bounded to me and Daniel looked from my arms in the kids that surrounded me. He linked his fingers at the base of my neck and pressed against me, as if he thought the youngsters had been here to take me away. It was excellent to know he still loved me.
He loved me helloffa lot.
But you need to see him around Sin.
He didn?t let everyone touch him.
Well, except Evyn, but they she was the momma, so there was an exception.
But Daniel was so possessive of his loved ones.
Like me!
Kind of like how I was to my brothers when I was younger?
“Can I play with him, Solstice?” a little girl at the mere age of six asked. I bear in mind her name being Kyra.
“Please, please, pretty please having a cherry on leading?” another asked, whose name was Laurel.
“May I hold him, please, Solstice?” She was twelve, named Starr and incredibly well-mannered and sweet.
I looked at Daniel. He stared back at me.
“You wanna play, baby boy? With these gorgeous girls? Be pimpin all over the world,” I said, raising my eyebrow and the small girls giggled. Daniel buried his face in my shoulder and I knelt down, setting him down on his feet. I took his hands and he wrapped his fingers about my index. I held him up as he walked slowly. He couldn?t walk by himself, but when he held my fingers, he could.
“Well, have a look at you, babe,” an individual stated from behind me and I looked over my shoulder. I smiled at Grant.
“Hey you,” I said to him.
Grant walked past me and didn?t cease until he was in front of Daniel. “How?s the kid you foolishly chose to adore far more than me?” he said, ruffling Daniel?s hair.
“Foolish?” I scoffed. “I don?t feel so, honey. But he?s doing excellent…,” I mumbled, smiling at Daniel. He looked up at Grant with massive eyes.
“Be pimpin all over the globe,” Grant echoed me as girls crowded about us to coo more than Daniel. Oh my God, I only had thought there were grade school kids here, but there were high school students, too. And now, looking around, I noticed there had been a helloffa lot people here?
“Hey, why are there so many people?” I asked, frowning.
Grant smirked at me. “Dumb,” he told me, shaking his head. “It?s the Annual Spring Festival, Solstice. Did you forget?” he asked.
“I didn?t even know!” I gasped.
“It?s been all more than the school,” he told me.
“Well, I?ve had so considerably anxiety lately,” I sighed. A understanding look passed over his face and he produced an O shape with his lips.
“I get you,” he nodded and smiled at me.
“I know you do,” I stated. “That?s why we’re greatest pals.”
Grant?s eyes dimmed, as if what I said affected him. But prior to I could question him about it, Marty and Stephanie came up to us. Marty was genuinely tall, but so was Stephanie. She was six feet tall, so they matched. They had been like the scene kind of kids; the type men and women typically believed had been cutters and called emo or Goth. But trust me, they weren?t. They just liked to dress like that.
Stephanie?s hair was naturally black, but she had blonde below. Her bangs that hung over her eyes had been highlighted with electric blue and there were blue streaks in her hair, too. Her skin was fair and she had really dark blue eyes that had been like an abyss. Stephanie was gorgeous and could get any guy hooked under her arms, but they judged. They believed she cut herself.
It was so untrue although. Like, appropriate now, she was wearing a navy blue tank leading and black skinny jeans. Her arms had been toned and bare. In case you saw her wrist, there was not 1 scar. She wore shorts, too and there were scars there. She went swimming in the community pool wearing a bikini. Not one scar.
But you realize, men and women assumed the worst. It was pretty sad.
“Hey Solstice,” Marty said. I smiled at them and waved. Grant didn?t speak to them much, so he was one of the ones who believed they had been cutters. I kicked his foot and he winced.
“Hey,” Grant and I both stated at the exact same time.
Stephanie smiled and knelt down in front of Daniel. “Handsome. I can see a future ladies man in my mind already. Look at all these girls around him,” Stephanie laughed and picked him up. Daniel put his hands on her shoulders and leaned away from him to analyze her. Right after staring for two minutes, he decided he liked her ? no doubt as a result of her hair ? and grabbed a blonde lock. Stephanie scrunched up her face.
“Don?t tug too challenging,” Stephanie said and Daniel looked at her before started to separate each and every strands like he did to me. Stephanie gave me a questioning appear.
I leaned against Grant, hooking our arms. “He gets that from me. I?m obsessed with soft hair. I guess he?s obsessed with colorful hair,” I shrugged.
“Like yours? Your hair is bright red,” Marty stated.
“Ugh, don?t get me started. I wake up to him chewing on my hair sometimes. It?s pretty gross. I’ve to bear in mind to lock the door now. But then, occasionally I forget,” I groaned. Daniel frowned at me.
“Mmm, don?t get the baby mad,” Stephanie said, smiling.
“Oh my, gosh, Solstice, your nephew is adorable!”
And they all surrounded Stephanie, touching his face, arm, hand and hair. Daniel?s eyes lit up, he liked the attention.
“And I thought I was the hottest out here. I can think a seven month old took my location!” Grant exclaimed.
“You could never ever compare, Grant,” I told him. He frowned at me, his eyebrows pulling together.
All the girls took turns holding him. They cooed and whined when someone took him away. I called Sin up, still keeping my eye on my breakable nephew. He picked up on the third ring.
“Hey, come down to the park. It?s the Spring Festival, get Dad, Slade and Sparrow, too,” I stated.
“Alright. How?s Daniel?” he asked.
“Good. He?s surrounded by girls,” I explained.
Sin chuckled. “I?ll be there,” he said and we cut the line.
“I nonetheless can?t believe it,” Grant sighed and put his arms about me.
“Better believe it,” I laughed and wound my arm about his back.
“Sol, there?s a race up there, go and have enjoyable. I got Daniel,” Sin stated, coming up to me, putting a hand on my shoulder. I smiled up at him and he smiled back.
“Thanks Sin,” I said and kissed his cheek. I saw Slade with Nyssa and they had been absorbed in a dart game exactly where you had to pop the balloons. I grinned and let Grant lead me to where the race was.
“Hey, how can you join?” I asked the man who stood in the side, calling men and women to come and play.
“Just sign your name here and we?ll give you a number. It?s the young children who race very first, then the eight-to-ten year olds and then the eleven-to-fourteen year olds and then its kids your age. So you must wait. It?s coed,” he added. I smiled and nodded. I took the pen and jotted my full name down and the guy sitting behind the table gave me a number. It was a sticker so I peeled it off from the paper and stuck it on my shirt.
“Grant, go join,” I said.
He shook his head. “Nah.”
“Grant, go. Join,” I ordered.
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Little bitch,” I accused. He frowned at me and wrote down his name.
“I?ll beat your cute small ass,” he stated, tapping my butt. I slapped his hand away.
“Pervert,” I laughed and hugged him.
“Do you think hugging me is going to create me let you win? My ass,” Grant said and pushed me away. He did it gently, though.
I frowned at him. He smirked.
“Oh, it really is so on,” I stated and turned about to walk away. I heard Grant?s laugh and looked down at my skinny jeans. It would be impossible to run in these. Grant was wearing basketball shorts which was lucky; he could surely run in those. I looked around and spotted a person selling clothes and issues.
“Yes,” I mumbled to myself, running there. I purchased yellow shorts that matched my yellow tee shirt and identified my way into the bathroom. I changed rapidly and then went out, trying to find my Dad. When I located him, I gave him my jeans, which he gave me questioning looks to. I explained what was happening and he laughed and followed me back to exactly where the high school students were going to start racing. I stretched my legs and Grant frowned at me to uncover out I had changed. I stuck out my tongue out at him, ignoring the chills I got in my legs from the cold air.
“There is going to be a few races for the high school students because you’ll find so a lot of of you. The winners of each and every race will get prizes and then they are going to race every other. Who ever is the winner will get an award and prize. It is going to not be coed very first, but all fifteen year old girls line up along the line and we?ll start,” the man stated into a microphone.
I stretched as I watched them race. This short, but truly fast girl won for the fifteen year old girls and then a medium height guy won for the boy?s race inside the identical age. It went like the for the other races until it was for the eighteen year olds which was Grant, Stephanie, Marty, me and some other children. Needless to say, the girls went very first. Sin held Daniel up, cheering for me along with my other family members members. I grinned at them and stretched, touching my toes. I looked more than at Grant and he winked at me.
“Alright, prepared, set, GO!” the man yelled and I shot forward.
My heart hammered in my heart against my ribcage. I suddenly remembered Carter and me, the day at Peace Valley exactly where I was chasing him. A smile crossed my lips at his memory and I realized if he was here, there was no way I would ever win. He was extremely quick, surely faster than each Grant and me and even Sin and Sin was quick. I picked up speed, despite the aching in my legs and I passed the girl in front of me. Stephanie was beside me, there was a wild grin stretching her lips and her face was red. I laughed and ran with a speed I genuinely didn?t feel I have.
“And number twenty-three wins!”
I looked down at my number and I jumped ten feet up into the air. “I won!” I laughed just before breathing in deeply, actually tired. I put my palms on my knees and took deep even breaths ahead of standing. I walked steadily to the man and he gave me a gold ribbon. I grinned and took it, thanking him. I went to Grant.
“See, I have a likelihood at beating you,” I told him.
He smirked. “No you don?t,” he said and went to stand in the line by the other guys.
When the guy stated ?go?, Grant immediately outran the other guys with no trouble at all. I swore under my breath.
“Damn, this was going to be difficult for me,” I sighed and watched him. He had crossed finish line and smirking at me. Sweat dripped down his forehead but he wiped it away like he wasn?t tired at all.
“Okay, so you?re quickly. I get it. But I still have a likelihood,” I told him.
“No you don?t,” he said and put his arms around me. I looked up at his face and leaned up to kiss his chin.
“Oh yes I do?,” I said within the most seductive voice I could muster up. A look crossed over Grant?s face.
“Solstice, it?s not going to function,” he told me.
“What isn?t?” I asked, running my fingers by way of his hair.
“Seducing me is so not going to work,” he said,
“Who stated something about seducing?” I asked and laughed backing off. “I?ll win,” I told him and smirked.
A sigh left his lips, but then his gaze met mine and he grinned slyly. “We?ll see,” he said and the man called the winners to line up. I looked at Grant and he looked back at him. His family members was here and they cheered for him and my family members cheered for me. I saw Daniel bouncing in Sin?s arms excitedly.
“I?ll win for you, baby!” I known as to Daniel, grinning. Sin laughed and Daniel clapped his hands. The crowd ?awhed?.
“I?ll just win for me,” Grant said and smirked. I booed and we each looked forward.
The subsequent factor I knew was that Grant and I were running. We had passed the other racers and we had been side by side, close to the finish line. We breathed in unison, our heartbeat thrumming rapidly against our chest. And then we took the final step.
~*~
“Good race, Sol,” Grant said, grinning widely at me. Sin, Sparrow, Daniel, Dad and Slade went into the house, shutting the door behind them, but not locking it. I stood at my porch, smiling at Grant.
“I was so close to beating you,” I stated.
“No you weren?t. I let you go. We tied as a result of your seducing skills,” he stated dryly.
I chuckled and hugged him.
“Thanks,” I told him. He kissed the top of my head prior to tilting up my chin. I stared into icy blue eyes that seemed like an endless abyss. I didn?t recognize he was leaning down until he kissed my lips.
